Staying COVID-Safe with Burslem Medical Centre
As we continue to adapt to the changing COVID-19 landscape, Burslem Medical Centre remains committed to keeping our community healthy, safe, and informed. Whether you’re due for a vaccination or simply seeking advice, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
COVID-19 Vaccinations Available
We offer COVID-19 vaccinations, including the Pfizer vaccine, for patients aged 12 and over with a valid Medicare card. If you’re due for a booster or haven’t received your initial doses, we encourage you to book an appointment through our online booking system or by calling reception.
Please note: We currently do not offer the reduced-dose Pfizer vaccine for children under 12.
What to Expect After Your Vaccine
Vaccines are safe and effective, but some mild side effects may occur. These can include:
Very common: redness or tenderness at the injection site, fatigue, fever, or chills
Common: flu-like symptoms or mild nausea
Uncommon: dizziness, rash, or stomach discomfort
These usually resolve within 48 hours. If you experience more serious symptoms, contact your doctor or report them via the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration).
Mask Policy & COVID Screening
While masks are no longer required throughout the entire clinic, please be aware that some doctors and nurses may request patients to wear a mask inside the consultation room. Reception staff will advise you if this applies to your appointment. We ask that all patients respect this policy to protect our more vulnerable community members.
If You Have Symptoms or Test Positive
If you are experiencing any possible COVID-19 symptoms — such as fever, cough, sore throat, tiredness, headaches, shortness of breath, or loss of taste/smell — please do not come into the clinic.
Instead:
Book a telephone consultation with your doctor for advice
Your doctor will guide you on next steps and can arrange a safe in-person visit if needed
If you have tested positive for COVID:
Stay at home
Book a telephone consultation for further medical care or advice
DO NOT enter the medical centre unless your doctor specifically arranges a safe face-to-face consultation
We understand it can be frustrating to delay in-person care, but these protocols help protect all patients and staff from potential spread. Rest assured, we are here to support you remotely and will always make safe arrangements if an in-person visit is necessary.
Your Honesty Helps Us Keep Everyone Safe
All patients will be asked screening questions when booking. Please answer honestly — we are not trying to stop you from seeing your doctor, but simply reduce the risk of COVID exposure inside the clinic.
